Gambit MK2 Utility Blade Platform

The Gambit MK2 takes its inspiration from one of the simplest pieces of military equipment ever issued: the U.S. military identification tag. Starting with the familiar proportions and low-profile form of a dog tag, the Gambit transforms that footprint into an open-face aluminum blade sheath and pendant designed around a replaceable utility blade.

The Gambit MK2 is not a knife itself. It is a minimalist platform designed to store, carry, and display a removable utility blade while keeping the cutting edge recessed within the aluminum body.

Machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, the Gambit uses two neodymium magnets to retain the blade. There are no screws, springs, folding mechanisms, or blade-change tools required.

Each Gambit MK2 includes a blade and ball chain.

Features

Dog-Tag-Inspired Architecture
The Gambit MK2 retains the compact proportions and carry concept of a military identification tag, allowing it to function as a pendant while remaining extremely thin and lightweight.

Open-Face Blade Design
The open-face architecture intentionally leaves a portion of the blade visible, incorporating the replaceable blade directly into the visual design of the platform.

Magnetic Blade Retention
The blade seats into a purpose-machined pocket within the aluminum platform and is retained by two neodymium magnets. The system securely cradles the blade without screws or other mechanical fasteners.

Recessed Cutting Edge
When properly installed in its stored position, the blade's cutting edge sits recessed within the Gambit MK2, helping protect the edge and reducing unintended contact during appropriate carry and storage.

Minimalist Construction
A machined aluminum platform, two magnets, and a replaceable blade. Nothing unnecessary.

Blade Options

Replaceable Utility Blades
The Gambit MK2 accepts HD .012 Single-Edge Scraper blades.

Blade replacement requires no tools. Remove the existing blade and install a compatible replacement, making sure the blade is fully seated in the machined blade pocket and against the magnetic retention surfaces.

Additional specialty, marked, or engraved blade options may be available depending on the production run.

Blade Retention & Safety

Always verify that the blade is properly seated and installed in the correct orientation before carrying or handling the Gambit MK2.

The blade pocket is directional and is not ambidextrous. The blade must be inserted in the intended orientation so it sits fully within the machined pocket designed to cradle it.

When correctly installed, the cutting edge must remain recessed within the protective profile of the aluminum platform.

Never install, carry, or use a bent or deformed blade in the Gambit MK2. A bent blade may not seat fully within the machined blade pocket and can cause the cutting edge to extend beyond the protective profile of the platform, creating a serious cut hazard. Replace any bent or damaged blade immediately.

Keep the blade pocket and magnetic retention surfaces clean and free of debris that could prevent proper seating.

Do not carry or use the Gambit MK2 if the magnets or aluminum platform are damaged, or if the blade does not seat fully and retain properly.

Recommended Carry

Because of its compact, open-face design, the Gambit MK2 should be carried or stored in a manner that protects the platform and prevents unintended contact with the blade.

Neck Carry
The traditional configuration. Each Gambit MK2 includes a ball chain for pendant-style neck carry.

Protective Sleeve or Zippered Pouch
For pocket, pack, or gear storage, place the Gambit MK2 inside an appropriate protective sleeve, case, or zippered pouch rather than carrying it loose.

Scapular Carry
Its thin profile also makes the Gambit MK2 suitable for integration into an appropriately constructed scapular or similar protected neck-carry system.

Loose pocket carry is not recommended. Keychain carry should only be used when the Gambit MK2 is appropriately protected in a case or secured with a ranger band.

Care & Maintenance

The Gambit MK2 uses a disposable tool-steel blade. Because the platform is designed for neck and body carry, the blade may be exposed to perspiration, body heat, humidity, and moisture — all of which can accelerate surface corrosion.

Inspect the blade regularly for rust, corrosion, bending, or other damage, especially when the Gambit MK2 is worn against or near the body.

Apply a light coating of appropriate oil to the blade periodically to help protect the steel from corrosion. After exposure to perspiration or moisture, remove the blade, wipe it clean and dry, lightly oil it, and reinstall it in the correct orientation.

Minor surface rust should be addressed promptly and can often be removed with a standard pink rubber pencil eraser. Rub the eraser in the same direction as the grain of the steel to help avoid creating visible swirl marks. Clean and lightly oil the blade afterward.

Do not continue carrying a significantly rusted or corroded blade. If corrosion cannot be completely removed, or if there is any pitting, bending, damage, or deterioration of the blade, replace it immediately.

Because the blades are inexpensive and replaceable, when in doubt, replace the blade rather than continuing to carry a compromised cutting edge.

Keep the aluminum platform, blade pocket, and magnetic retention surfaces clean and dry. Periodically inspect the magnets and platform for damage, debris, or anything that could interfere with proper blade seating and retention.

Magnet / Medical Device Warning

The Gambit MK2 contains two strong neodymium magnets used for blade retention. Magnets may interfere with pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and other implanted or wearable medical devices.

Do not wear or carry the Gambit MK2 near a pacemaker, ICD, or other magnet-sensitive medical device. If you use a medical device, consult the device manufacturer or your healthcare provider regarding magnetic interference before carrying or handling the Gambit MK2.

International Orders

International shipping regulations and import requirements vary by destination.

Blade Tips does not ship a Gambit MK2 internationally with a blade installed or packaged together with the platform. International Gambit MK2 orders are shipped as the aluminum platform and ball chain only unless other arrangements have been made.

Replacement blades may be eligible to ship separately where permitted.

International shipments require an adult signature.

International customers should contact Blade Tips before ordering if special shipping arrangements are required. The purchaser is responsible for determining whether the Gambit MK2, replacement blades, or other components may legally be imported, possessed, or carried in the destination country or jurisdiction.

Build Quality

Each Gambit MK2 is produced in small batches and finished individually. Machining and finish characteristics may vary slightly from piece to piece.

Stonewashed, polished, anodized, and other limited finishes may be offered depending on the production run. Natural variations in these finishing processes make each platform slightly different.
